"Please Please Please" tell me why Sabrina's new song is so good

It seems like this is Sabrina Carpenter's summer.

Since joining Taylor Swift as part of her opening line-up for the Eras Tour, Carpenter has only been getting bigger. From being a Disney star to now the 9th most streamed artist on Spotify and having two hot summer singles, "Espresso" and "Please, Please, Please," Sabrina Carpenter is up there with Gen Z pop icons such as Olivia Rodrigo and Lana Del Rey.

When "Espresso" was first released, everyone got on board with streaming the single. When I first listened to the song, it felt bland to me. It was catchy and cute, but it easily wasn't my cup of tea (no pun intended). Apparently, that was a hot take because the song was quickly all over the radio and TikTok. I even found myself singing or humming the song unintentionally because I can't deny that Espresso is a catchy song.

However, Espresso quickly became overplayed, and now when I hear it, I skip or tune out, BUT... Carpenter's new song, Please Please Please, is a different story.

Truthfully, I'm not a big Sabrina fan. I like her stuff, but I prefer to listen to Olivia or Taylor when I'm in the mood for pop music. For once, I really like one of Sabrina Carpenter's songs, and I think the music video makes it even better.

When I first heard the new song, Carpenter sounded different on this track compared to her other music, and I believe that because she actually sounds country in this song. She uses a mixed voice when singing this song, making her sound more nasally, and at times, like in the chorus, when she sings the lyrics "I beg you, don't embarrass me, motherfucker." She sounds like a country singer, and I love it.

It's a different vibe; the song is fresh and has a story.

The music video is where Carpenter brings this song to a different level. Barry Keoghan, Carpenter's boyfriend, stars in this music video. What's ironic about the casting for this video is that this song is all about how Carpenter doesn't want to be let down by her significant other. Well... I guess Carpenter brought her lyrics to life by using her ACTUAL BOYFRIEND to play the part of the hot bad boy in the video that continues to mess up and embarrass her.

Like, come on. This is an ICONIC GIRL BOSS move. The whole song and music video is basically a big warning sign to Barry Keoghan not to break her heart and make Carpenter look bad. This is also a risky move, and I am surprised that Carpenters' PR team even allowed this to happen because what if something goes wrong between these two? They haven't been dating for long.... this isn't just an Instagram post that can be deleted quickly if their relationship goes south. This is a work of art that will be on the internet forever.

I still give props to Carpenter for making such a bold move. This really was a hard launch for their relationship. I think this music video is a perfect example of how, even though Carpenter's real-life relationship inspired this song and video, it doesn't distract from the artistry that the video and song hold or the fact that this song is a BOP.
